Science Education Activities (Nov 2016-Mar 2017)

1. STEM Activities
From January to March, our Science teachers gave a chance for all form one and two students to get a taste of taking part in STEM activities.

In line with the topic of our Science textbook Unit 9 Electricity, every form 2 girl assembled a mini motor. The students made a lot of efforts to ensure the motor is working. It is absolutely a challenging experience for them.

Next, based on Unit 4 Energy of the S.1 Science textbook, every group of form one students assembled a solar oven. The students cooked some eggs using the handmade ovens. The cooking was carried out on the roof of our school building. All students were so excited to wait for their products.

2. A Visit to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic garden
To raise students’ interest in Integrated Science and widen their exposure to the Nature Conservancy, we arranged 1D students a visit to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic garden on 20th January 2017. Through visiting pigsties, Piers Jacobs Wildlife Sanctuary, Raptor Roost, Amphibian and Reptile House and Eco-garden with the comprehensive explanation of the staff there, students are able to gain more knowledge and insights towards the preservation of wildlife and apply them to classroom learning and daily living.

3. A Visit to T-park
T • PARK is a futuristic waste treatment facility that fires up Hong Kong’s “waste-to-energy” and resource recovery ambitions. It offers the best alternative solution for sludge disposal and sets the pace for a more sustainable Hong Kong. Our students are able to get exposed to the process of waste disposal, enriching the concept of transferring garbage into energy.

4. InnoCarnival at Science Park 2016
All form two girls had joined the activity held by Science Park on 4th of November 2016. Underscoring the theme Smart Living.Innovative Hong Kong, InnoCarnival 2016 features various types of activities, such as exhibitions, seminars, science competitions, guided tours, and interactive games. It can explore their horizons to the application of science and technology in our daily lives. Besides, all students have the opportunities to join an innovation workshop to gain hands-on and fun-filled experience. Hopefully, all these activities and efforts can raise the interest of students to study science.
