1. Flowers in the Mirror (2012-2016)

To enhance the effectiveness of language learning through the appreciation and performance of musicals, we successfully applied for Quality Education Fund (QEF) in 2012. We adapted a musical from a famous fantasy novel written by Li Ruzhen written in 1827. Our students performed the musical not only in our school over the past few years but also in Manchester, the U.K. in 2016. It is indeed a huge success as it helps raise the students’ interest in reading literature and the creative writing skills, strengthen the performing abilities in terms of drama, dancing and music and make students reflect on life and female education.

2. School-based Electronic Learning Platform (2014-2018)

To prepare students for facing and keeping abreast of the new technological era of the 21st century, we were granted 60 million and 72 million dollars in 2015 and 2017 respectively. We refined the S.1 Chinese Language School-based Curriculum and developed S.2 Classical Chinese modules in order to connect with that of the form 1 curriculum. Students can make use of the multimedia to do preparation, revision and extension part so as to raise their own learning interest and achieve self-efficacy. It also helps teachers get familiar with the use of information technology in their own teaching and enhance its effectiveness.

English Language

Our English Department are also honoured to have applied for QEF successfully for the new initiative (2017-2018)——“Women as Role Models: Meet Write”, a training program for our S.3 and S.4 students (20 in total), who will be “Journalist Reporters (JRs)”, to develop their writing skills to better equip themselves in developing a career in journalism. We are also delighted to have invited the senior writer of Mr Oliver Chou from the South China Morning Post to be their coach to teach our JRs knowledge and techniques in exploring, and excelling in, their writing and reporting capacities. We are sure they would be able to gain a lot from you and become future leaders contributing to our society on the 21st century.

Similar to English Language, mathematical knowledge and skills are essential for students to live a full life in the society of the 21st century, which is an era of information. In recent years, our Math department has joined “SEED” project launched by the Education Bureau and has been investigating and developing effective strategies on the learning and teaching of Permutation, Combination and Probability in the Senior Secondary Mathematics Curriculum. Efforts have also been made on promoting and implementing STEM Education in Secondary Mathematics.

Refined English Enhancement Scheme (2011-2014)

Upon the implementation of the school-based MOI arrangements in the 2010/11 school year, schools are no longer classified into schools using Chinese as the MOI (CMI schools) and schools using English as the MOI (EMI schools).  The choice and number of subjects taught in the English medium vary between classes within individual schools as well as among schools.  Since schools conduct extended learning activities in English for classes adopting mother-tongue teaching, school-based MOI arrangements have become more diversified.

To tie in better with the fine-tuned MOI arrangements, our school continuing with our EES project has revisited our existing school-based measures and made appropriate refinements.  In 2010, we applied for the Refined English Enhancement Scheme and got an additional funding to implement new measures as well as devise whole-school language policy to continue to strengthen our capacity of teaching and learning English.

English Enhancement Scheme (2007-2013)

To ensure that students in CMI schools would also be proficient in English while learning non-language subjects through the mother tongue, EDB has made a new injection, for providing a time-limited non-recurrent grant spanning over a period of 6 years.

In 2006, our English Enhancement Scheme was submitted and approved with the funding of about HK$2.9 millions to further strengthen the teaching and learning of English through strategic planning and implementation of holistic school-based plans for capacity building.

The English Enhancement Scheme strategies and implementation plans has started from 2007-08.

Every year, the financial report and the progress report of the English Enhancement Scheme are submitted to the EDB and included to the school report.

The interim review was conducted in late June, 2010. Positive remarks were given on the variety and the effectiveness of the programmes.

Interactive Multimedia Instruction Learning Platform of Liberal Studies

Funded by the Information Technology in Education Partnership Incentive Scheme of the Education Bureau, our school has set up an Interactive Multimedia Instruction Learning Platform (LMS) of Liberal Studies. We cooperate with Guangzhou True Light Middle School and Guangzhou Changti Middle School to enhance learning and exchange between teachers and students in the two regions.

The structure of the LMS include “Learning Zone”, “Debate Area”, “Online Chatroom”, “Forum”, “Online Video Conference Room”, “Interactive Drama Gallery”, “Creative Corner”, “Project-based Learning Area” and the “Top Star Picker”. Teachers and students in Hong Kong and Guangzhou can learn with and from each other through the LMS.
