Curriculum Features

Affection is where art comes from

Each of the school VA’s module studies works of various artists whose emotional journeys and personalities during the time of creation are analysed through their visual elements, artwork materials and skills. After studying these aspects, students create their own works through their own perspectives in different situations, visual elements, materials and skills, all of which are instrumental in their emotional expressions and personal characteristics. Topics include childhood, parents, a toy from childhood, friendship, the then and now of the community.

Modern cultures and art

We develop students’ sensitivity towards people and things around them, which is essential in igniting creativity and inspiration. Therefore, topics of contemporary cultures are provided, including Hong Kong street food, fanboying and fangirling, nostalgia, and the relationship between pop art and pop culture.

Multi-media multi-platform learning and feedback

The learning of art is not confined to a classroom setting. We exploit resources such as online clips, information, pictures and albums, etc. for students to expose themselves to a wide scope of artwork in order to substantiate their learning experience. With visual input and texts as input, student-teacher and peer interactions take place in online classrooms. Teachers make use of online platforms to give timely feedback to students during their time of creation, which provides students with inspiration and confidence, while raising their appreciation skills and drawing techniques.

Cross-curricular collaboration

We work with other subjects to provide cross-curricular learning opportunities. For example, we collaborated with Physics in creating artwork with the use of electronic circuit. We also worked on a qipao design and sewing project with Home Economics.

Life-wide Learning

Talent Showcasing

The 1st Joint-Section Art Exhibition -“Gallery of the Exquisitely Sensitive”

Collaborating with other departments, we organized KTL 70th Anniversary Joint Section Exhibition. Held in Shatin Town Hall Exhibition Gallery, the event was a triumph, being the very first exhibition featuring pieces by students from the secondary, primary and kindergarten sections. Works by the alumnae also added colours to our exhibition. Visitors spoke highly of the event for it featured works of high caliber and exuberant creativity.

Qipao Expo

To let students have more understanding of Chinese qipao, the Visual Arts and Home Economics Department co-hosted a cheongsam/qipao creative design course for S.3 students provided by Art Building Character (ABC) Foundation. Our S.2 to S.4 students designed various styles and themes of qipao, showing their edgy creativity. Our students were also given the chance to showcase their designs and elegance on the runway of the Qipao Expo.

The CCC Centennial Anniversary Joint Secondary School Exhibition

Held in Hong Kong City Hall Exhibition Hall, the event enabled our students to showcase and introduce their design.

Giving Back to the Community

Mural painting on safety fences

40 students from S.2 to S.5 visited the CLP Black Point Power Station in Lung Kwu Tan and participated in the “Building our Smart City – A Mural Design Activity”. There were a hundred of participants, including our students, working passionately on the mural painting outdoor despite the relentless heat. It was a fruitful experience by working with artists.

Sunshine Project: collaboration with the Primary Section

VA students in Senior Secondary organized Sunshine Project with the primary school students of KTL. They went to the Primary Section with prepared materials and themes they came up with to design and draw prints on T-shirts together, which were then sent to the needy in society as gifts. This act infused the people they helped with love and positivity, while students could make use of what they learnt to give back to their community.

Graffiti Art Workshop

Various workshops were offered by Art@Kowloon City District organized by the District Council and the Home Affairs Department of Kowloon City. Our students took part in various workshops and their works were showcased in an exhibition, embodying the idea of developing a community through art.

Art in Campus

Staircase mural at campus

Art Building Character (ABC) Foundation and our “Artlight” students completed the staircase painting during the summer holiday, with the theme being school history, salt and light and Christianity. During the process, our alumnae and their children also participated in the activity.

Practical Subjects Week

This 3-day event and collaboration with Physical Education, Home Economics and Music enables students to explore VA creations of different media. Their interest in and understanding of art are developed. Also, they come to a realization that art is an indispensable part in life.

Off-campus Big-scale Activities

Mardi Gras

In 2017, We took part in Mardi Gras 2017, which was an event with works of author, playwright and novelist Roald Dahl as the theme. Activities took place in Victoria Park and the bustling areas in Causeway Bay.

In 2019, students participated in a “string art” workshop in ‘Standard Chartered Arts in the Park’ organized by Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and Standard Chartered Hong Kong. Their products were displayed in Victoria Park, where the event took place. Some also hosted a face painting booth during the event as well.

Wow Summer Camp by PMQ

Senior form students engaged in site visits in various districts as a team, through which they learnt to inquire, analyse and solve problems. Data analysis and mold making were incorporated, while apps, IOT and digital construction technology (e.g. 3D printing, laser cutting) came into play through various modes of multimedia presentation.

Taipei Arts Exchange Tour

30 students from S3 to S5 visited various spots including National Palace Museum, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Yingge Old Street, Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, etc. It was indeed a tour of inspiration.
