Curriculum Features

An amalgam of Chinese and foreign sport items

Aside from the mainstream items such as basketball, volleyball, softball, track and field, gymnastics, badminton, etc., students can learn some special ones such as martial arts, archery, dodgebee, aerobics, basic yoga stretching moves etc. All these experiential learning opportunities enable students to explore more in the field of sport and the cultures where these items are from.

E-learning in PE

Our department adopts e-learning for elevating students’ skills. For example, in the gymnastics module, students should read about various moves and demonstration clips online for lesson preparation, followed by an online quiz. During the lesson, their performance is filmed for replay, where self-evaluation can be facilitated.

Development of perseverance

To encourage students’ development of resilience and valiance in class learning activities, modules of fitness training, endurance run and rope-skipping, etc. are developed. During these activities, students can understand how important it is to be persevering for fulfilling such tasks. Ultimately, positive values and an active attitude are fostered.

Promoting self-directed learning

We incorporate elements of self-directed learning in PE lessons. For example, S6 students choreograph their Lantern Parade, designing its formations and light effects. Such a task is where students’ autonomy and leadership come into play.

Sharpening students’ edge in leadership

We offer opportunities for students to take a leading role during class so as to strengthen their confidence. For example, students take turns to lead the warm-up and wind-down sessions in each lesson. Students of higher ability can also act as “teachers jr.”, helping teachers demonstrate certain moves.

Life-wide Learning

Sports Week

(1) The annual Sports Week features seminars and booths for elevating students’ interest in physical exercises.

(2) The Sports for All Day enables all teachers and students to stretch and work out together to raise health awareness.

Recess and Lunch Break Activities

(1) Badminton rackets and shuttlecocks are accessible at the Recreation Box for students’ use during recesses and lunch breaks.

(2) Pedometers are available for students’ use during lunch breaks.

(3) Inter-house competitions are arranged during lunch breaks.

Sport Promotion and Guided Visit

(1) Students are brought to watch large-scale competitions such as Rugby Sevens during off-school hours.

(2) Nike visited our school to promote basketball.

(3) InspiringHK Sports Foundation Limited organized a yoga stretching programme in our school.

School Teams

Our school teams include volleyball, softball, archery, basketball, track and field, swimming, cross-country running, and dancing. Through training and competitions, team members grow in an atmosphere where perseverance is valued and unity is glorified. They are all ready to take on challenges and achieve breakthroughs.

Each team has to manage their own team resources, assume judging duties in matches and organize promotional activities. For example, team members are to be judges of inter-house competitions in order to raise their own understanding of rules and regulations of the sport event. The implementation of such regulations helps them consolidate their knowledge. Some team members also offer their help in ‘Kowloon True Light Cup’, an inter-primary school basketball competition. Our student helpers develop their confidence, flexibility and a sense of belonging through running the activity.
