Service Without Boundaries – Belt and Road Initiative Vietnam Study Tour
Principal Lee, NSCC and the Economics Department led our school’s students on a 4-day One Belt One Road service learning tour to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 13 to 16 July.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the students visited the Cu Chi Tunnels, the Mekong River, and the War Remnants Museum, and enjoyed the Golden Dragon Water Puppetry show, gaining an in-depth understanding of Vietnamese history and culture. They also collaborated with the local non-profit organization Maison Chance, using design thinking to carry out student-led service learning. Prior to the trip, the students conducted community observations and research on Vietnam’s education and the characteristics of local children, and designed a one-day English education class and activities.
During the journey, the students saw the needs of the world, and upholding the school motto “Thou art the Light of the world”, they resolved to serve the community in the future. The students also worked in groups to identify the “doubts”, “difficulties”, “highlights”, “interesting points”, “connection points”, and “appreciation points” during the itinerary, reflecting on their experiences. They also visited the Chinese Consulate-General in Vietnam to learn about the country’s One Belt One Road development in Vietnam, and were honored to be received by Consul-General Wei Huaxiang, who exchanged with our students.
