7th International Youth Forum: Exploring Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development
To promote international youth exchanges and collaboration, and to deepen students’ understanding of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Kowloon True Light School hosted the 7th International Inter-School Youth Forum on 15 December 2025. The event attracted nearly 100 teachers and students from 12 schools from Macau, Guangzhou, and local institutions, with the French School Jakarta from Indonesia joining in a hybrid format, facilitating in-depth discussions on sustainability issues.
Gathering Academic Strength: Uniting a Panel of Experts
The event featured the presence of Dr. Sze Chun Fai, JP, the Under Secretary for Education from the Education Bureau, who delivered a speech expressing support for the event and hopes for the participating students. Additionally, the forum received strong backing from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Hong Kong and the Division of Environment and Sustainability at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, providing a solid academic foundation for the event. The judging panel included Mr. Johnathan Chong, Director of the United Nations Global Leadership and ESG Programme, Dr. Martinez from the University of Hong Kong, and Dr. Chen Shi from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This forum brought together various professional strengths, reflecting the academic and social commitment to youth development and innovation.
Innovative Solutions Competition: Focusing on Society, Environment, and Culture
During this forum, themed “Innovative Solutions for Effectively Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” each school proposed innovative solutions from the perspectives of “Society,” “Environment,” and “Culture.” In the presentation segment, students passionately engaged with the theme, displaying active innovative thinking and engaging in deep discussions through targeted questions and responses. After intense competition, Diocesan Girls’ School, Kowloon True Light School, and SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School were awarded first prizes. Kowloon True Light School proposed a four-stage solution titled “AI Identification, Animal Therapy, Gamified Partnerships, and Long-term Companionship,” effectively blending technology and psychological support to promote social connections among youth. SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School suggested the development of a “Whale-shaped Garbage-eating Robot,” creatively addressing the challenges of waste management both on land and underwater, thus providing robust support for biodiversity conservation. Diocesan Girls’ School designed an “International Exchange Platform for Tea Culture,” leveraging the unique charm of tea diplomacy and diverse forms of cross-cultural socialisation to deepen global youth connections. These solutions not only showcase deep youth understanding of sustainable development but also provide vibrant and creative new ideas for advancing the SDGs.
Broadening International Perspectives: Developing Future Leaders
The forum provided a platform for cross-regional student exchanges, showcasing the innovative capabilities of Hong Kong students while reinforcing the vision to enjoy strong support from the Motherland and connect with the world. By implementing practical case studies, the event promoted the realisation of the SDGs and helped empower youth to become drivers of sustainable development, laying the groundwork for cultivating future leaders with an international outlook.
