Culture and Literature Trip to Taipei
Our school organized a Culture and Literature Trip to Taipei from 28 June to 1 July, leading students to visit renowned cultural landmarks and experience the unique cultural ambiance of Taipei. This cultural tour provided the 22 participating teachers and students with a unique educational opportunity, broadening their horizons and creating many cherished memories. Upon arrival, teachers and students visited the Ri Xing Type Foundry, which upholds the spirit of “The Characters of Bygone Days, Cherishing Words, Practicing Calligraphy”, to learn about the rise, decline, revival, and preservation of type casting and letterpress printing culture. They also visited the Mollie Used Books to search for lost literary treasures. The next day, they went to the rooftop paper-making terrace of the Suho Memorial Paper Museum to learn about the papermaking process and experience the transformation of fibers into paper. Then, they stepped into the Hu Shih Memorial Hall, guided by a docent’s narration, to explore the life story of Hu Shih. Afterward, they toured the historic Bopiliao Old Street, seeking traces of over a century of history amidst the quaint brick walls and ancient atmosphere of Taipei’s Wanhua District alleys. They also explored The Red House in Ximending, a blend of culture, commerce, and history, to understand the dual development of Taipei’s business and cultural scenes. Additionally, they saw the present-day prosperity of Jiufen, reflecting on its past glories and the nostalgic ambiance of its old streets. Following that, they visited Shifen Old Street and the Jingtong Wooden Railway Station, where they made wishes and blessings on the tracks, witnessing the hopes and aspirations for life from both companions and strangers. In the evening, they strolled through the bustling Ningxia Night Market, savoring the local customs and flavors of Taiwan. Before departing, they also visited the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, experiencing the fascination of revitalization and cultural creativity. Last but not least, this Culture and Literature Trip allowed students to explore the literary and cultural characteristics of a different place. Through interaction and experience, it not only fostered cross-cultural social awareness, but also inspired their literary creativity, making it a truly valuable experience.
