Chan Ching Chinese History Teaching Award 2025
Ms. Lau Man Wai, Head of the Chinese History Department at our school, has been awarded the “Chan Ching Chinese History Teaching Award 2025” by the Institute of Chinese Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. After interviews and practical teaching demonstrations, she became the sole recipient of this year’s award. The award aims to recognize outstanding Chinese history teachers in local secondary schools and to encourage improvements, research, and innovation in teaching. Our school’s Chinese History Department’s school-based “Seeking Truth, Seeking Light” curriculum leads students to explore historical materials through games, role-playing mysteries, experiential activities, etc., and to gain “the light of life” from historical figures.
Ms. Chan Ching (1922-1992), the mother of the founder of the Chinese History Teaching Award, was admitted to the National Southwestern Associated University in Kunming during the War of Resistance. In 1952, she began teaching at Lingnan Secondary School on Stubbs Road, focusing primarily on Chinese history. She was deeply loved and respected by her students, dedicating her life to education and nurturing countless talents. She passed away in Hong Kong in 1992 at the age of seventy. In memory of her and to carry on her legacy, her family, in conjunction with the Mingyuan Cultural Education Foundation, established the “Chan Ching Chinese History Teaching Award” with a donation in 2018.
