A Visit to Tai Kwun (27/06/2018)
To raise students’ interest in learning history, a group of 50 History and Chinese History students joined “Tai Kwun Education Activity: One-Stop Exploration” on 27 June 2018. As a centre for heritage and arts, Tai Kwun is situated in the restored Central Police Station compound, one of the most significant revitalisation projects in Hong Kong, comprising three declared monuments—the former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison. This provided the students with an opportunity to appreciate up close their contrasting architectural features of the historical buildings. Students were immersed in the rich heritage of the colonial history of Hong Kong through guided tours, and this programme offered them a real insight into the role of law and order in our society contributing to Hong Kong’s distinctive character as a major world city.
