Platinum Jubilee of Kowloon True Light School – 1st Joint School Bilingual Youth Forum
In order to foster students’ understanding of the legal system from different perspectives, encourage them to obey the law, enhance their self-confidence and critical thinking skills and provide them a platform to exchange ideas with others, our school organized Platinum Jubilee of Kowloon True Light School – First Joint School Bilingual Youth Forum.
We were honoured to have invited Mr TSANG Yok-sing, Jasper, GBM, GBS, JP, and Mr. FAN Hoi-kit, Alex, member of the Youth Development Commission (YDC) and Action Committee Against Narcotics, to be our judges, giving valuable comments on students’ performance in the forums.
The topic for the Chinese forum was about the various policies of land supply, in which students from Pui Ching Middle School, Kowloon True Light School, Munsang College and Wa Ying College represented the environmental group, citizens, the government and entrepreneurs respectively. Students had a heated debate over the best solution to the land supply problem in Hong Kong based on the policies suggested by the Task Force on Land Supply. At last, HO Ka-wing from Wa Ying College got the best presenter award, CHU Fei-yu from Kowloon True Light School got the best questioning award and SIU Yiu from Munsang College got the best response award. Students from Wa Ying College were awarded the best role playing award.
In the English forum, students from Kowloon True Light School, Shatin Pui Ying College, Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School and Christian and Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School played the roles as the government, employers, dual-career families and Legislative Councilors respectively on the topic about the arrangements of paid maternity and paternity leave. After a fierce debate, LAU Yik, Lewis from Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School was awarded the best presenter award, SOON Cheuk-ki from Christian and Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School got the best questioning award and CHAN Kwan-sheung, Gabbie, got the best response award. And the best role playing award finally went to Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School.
Participants were highly commended by the judges for their magnificent performance in the forums.
It was such a wonderful afternoon for all the students and teachers, and we are looking forward to the forum next year.
