“Courtesy and Manners in True Light” Public Speaking Contest
On 13 December, our Chinese Department organized the” Form 4 Chinese Speech Contest”, which showcased the fruitful achievements of the students. After having studied the classic “Shishuo” (Discourse on Teachers), each student first wrote her own speech on the topic “Respect for Teachers.” Then, students form groups to review and edit peers’ scripts before presenting their views on the day of the contest. The champion, first-runner-up, second runner-up were selected by Vice Principal Ms. Leung Ching Wan and Ms. Ho Ka Wai. This contest featured the “Most Popular Speaker” award, for which students got a chance to vote and choose their best speaker. On the day of the contest, the participating students delivered their best performances while students in the audience actively participated in interactive games. This event not only helped students improve their speaking skills, but also prompted them to reflect on the traditional Chinese ethos of respecting one’s teachers.
