A visit to the Department of Chemistry laboratory at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
On 24 February, our school’s Chemistry Research Team was granted a coveted opportunity to tour the Department of Chemistry laboratory at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), escorted by none other than Professor Dennis H.W. Chan and his accomplished research team. The team was tasked with delving into the content of caffeine in food, utilizing the highly sophisticated UV Vis Spectrophotometer, a cutting-edge chemical analysis instrument. The valuable experimental data gathered would ultimately be utilized in an upcoming off-campus competition.
Students were exposed to the principles and applications of various advanced chemical analyzers by the University’s accomplished research team. The enriching experience left an indelible impression on the students, who shared their newfound interest and confidence in the subject of chemistry. The collective takeaway of the Chemistry Research Team was an invaluable increase in knowledge and skill acquisition, further bolstering their scientific pursuits.
