Kicking off Lunchtime Reading Workshops with a Bang
The Reading Promotion Committee (RPC) has kicked off a new series of Lunchtime Reading Workshops with a bang!
Coinciding with English Week, our first workshop was hosted by our school’s Head of English Language Department, Ms. Emma Yeung, who shared with students The 57 Bus – a book based on a real event, in which a little flick of a lighter shocked a community to its core and upended the lives of two teenagers. Through the book, Ms. Yeung introduced the idea of “restorative justice”, and guided students to think critically about issues of gender, race, and the criminal justice system, echoing RPC’s theme of the year – “Crime by the Books: from Reading to Righting”.
