Remembering Xi Xi – Hong Kong International Literary Festival
On 12 March, the Reading Promotion Committee organized an outing for the Reading Ambassadors, who took part in a literary event at Fringe Club, in remembrance of one of Hong Kong’s most-loved writers, Xi Xi.
As part of this year’s Hong Kong International Literary Festival, local writers Louise Law, Dorothy Tse, and Wong Yi, gathered with Fiona Chang, Xi Xi’s niece, to remember the life, the works and the Hong Kong of Xi Xi (1927-2022), whose writings helped put the city on the literary map.
It was a unique opportunity for both student participants and teachers to listen to the guest speakers reminiscing about their first encounters with Xi Xi, anecdotes in their friendships, and how Xi Xi’s literary works and handicrafts, as well as her fun-loving and big-hearted character, had nourished and inspired them.
It was a bonus to take a group photo with the guest speakers as well as toys made by Xi Xi!
