An Immersive Cultural Journey – the Youth Cantonese Opera Exchange Trip
Our students recently embarked on an immersive cultural journey through their participation in the Youth Cantonese Opera Exchange Trip. The trip aimed to showcase the unique cultural heritage of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, and the Greater Bay Area, and provided students with a remarkable opportunity to explore the vibrant world of Cantonese opera.
One of the highlights of the trip was the visit to the Heung Shan Cantonese Opera Institute, where the leader of the Heung Shan Cantonese Opera Troupe delivered a comprehensive lecture on the basic singing style of Cantonese opera. The students were also instructed on how to play the guns and postures, providing them with a hands-on experience of the art form. In addition to the Heung Shan Cantonese Opera Institute, the students visited several other places related to Cantonese opera, such as the oldest surviving stage of Wanfu Terrace in the Ancestral Temple in Foshan, the lion dance performance, and the Cantonese Opera Art Museum. These visits not only enhanced the students’ knowledge of Cantonese opera but also provided them with a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and traditions of the region.
